Excellent news! There will soon be a new source for 1766 Charleville/U.S. Mod. 1795 muskets. Militaryheritage.com will be producing the 1766 and even making a run of the weapon with U.S markings for the 1795 Springfield. These folks are in Canada and make a wide variety of products for F&I, Rev War and War of 1812 reenactors, including French and British infantry muskets and the Baker Rifle. Robert Henderson with Military Heritage e-mailed me and said the new musket is on the drawing board but should be available in the spring. If the pricing is similar to that of the company's other muskets, it should retail for between $400 and $500 U.S., approximately HALF of what the Pedersoli Charlevilles are selling for these days. FYI, these muskets are sold without touchholes in the barrel so that they qualify as non-firing antique replicas in order to get around Canadian and European firearms laws. You will have to take the musket to a gunsmith and have the touchhole drilled to make it functional, but hundreds of their muskets are in use today by Napoleonic reenactors and others. Here's a link to their muskets page: www.militaryheritage.com/muskets.htm
