Is it too early to start thinking about the 175th anniversary of the BHW - year 2007?

Larry-- great point!
It is NEVER too early to start thinking about appropriate observances and commemorative activites!
What are your thoughts and ideas?
What are the thoughts and ideas of discussion board participants?
Let's hear about your ideas!

Matt and I are contemplating an historic trek of sorts, retracing the route of the Galena Road from one point or another to another point or another, perhaps Apple River or something.

Many of us have visited BHW historic sites individually or through tours in the past... perhaps the OLRHS could organize a series of tour events for members and/or for the general public.
I would like to suggest a OLRHS sponsered commemorative item... say - a print suitable for framing made up of a collage of BHW figures or scenes to be sold as a fund raising activity. The prints could be displayed and sold in a varity of venues. Internet, libraries, museums, libraries, interpretative centers, historical societies, etc.
How about a set of essays on the significant events or maybe notable quotes during the BHW. ie, Black Hawk's surrender speech or a Atkinson or Dodge quote?
What about planting a tree or a grove of trees with a durable intrepretative marker?
Visit a prairie or savanna with a Prairie Enthusists guide.
Somehow get our members on the radio or TV. Contact Larry Mueller on Wisconsin Public Radio to do a special on the BHW. Petition local TV stations to do an interview with a member, etc.
Petition Susan Lampert Smith at the Wisconsin State Journal to do a special on the OLRHS and BHW.
We do not want to upstage the State Historical Society but we need to make some noise around the state.
I do not mean to leave out members and the public of the great State of Illinois on my suggestions. We could conjoin activities whatever they are.
More to follow as they come to me.
