We have been invited to join the Blue Mounds Area Historical Society and the parade that marks the focal point of their community festival. Parade to be held in the community of Blue Mounds, WI, coincidentally located at the foot of THE Blue Mounds. We will be marching in a parade with the Blue Mounds Area Historical Society. Expect rain.
Directions: Blue Mounds is located north of Hwy 18 and due west of Mount Horeb. On 18 travelling west, Turn right on County F. At the "T" intersection, turn left. Take the first right (County F or "Division Street") and go STRAIGHT on Division Street at the next intersection. Follow Division Street past Main to intersection with Mounds Road. Turn right and head north to Mound View Park, which will be on your right. The parade ENDS here, so you will need to park and walk south to the start of the parade, whcih is near the church on Division Street. (The village is 35 minutes west of Madison, and 1 hour south of Baraboo.)
When to Arrive: 10 AM Sunday September 17 at Mound View Park.
What to wear: All 1832 impressions of quality needed-- men, women, and young people. Militia should dress in their sternest Black Hawk War campain attire, with weapons, mindful that you will get wet. Bring cartridges but we likely will not shoot. (It sure would be nice if we could find a Canadian to portray Edward Beauchard... who WAS Canadian! Do we know of anyone willing to do such an impression? Anyone?)
Amenities: Chicken BBQ at Mound View Park ($7 per plate); Meet the State Archaeologist and see a display of artifacts from the Fort Blue Mounds digs (bring your digital!); and a chance to meet the great-great grand-daughter of THE Rachel Hall!
That's a lot of Black Hawk War doings for one afternoon!
Contact me with any additional questions.
