While this isn't exactly the same I have a story on the same similar subject. Recently the University of Iowa baseball team dropped a game against the Bradley University, the reason? Bradley's nickname is the Braves and the U of Iowa have a stance against playing against schools with Native nicknames. HOWEVER this doesn't seem to be an issue when playing fellow Big Ten conference member the University of Illinois Fighting Illini! ALSO its not a problem if Iowa would meet say the Florida State Seminoles in a bowl game (or any other playoff type event). I seem to remember a saying that went something like 'Money walks and...something about walking?' Mike Cavanaugh

Mike Cavanaugh Mike et al. -- Do you remember something something about the University of Wisconsin either not allowing or refusing to play some football team from West Virginia (??) 'cuz they were the Mountaineers (or something like that), and the mascot sported a gun? I thought I read something about this just this past Fall... Bob "Molon Labe" Braun

Bob you're memory is correct. I think that was perhaps 2 years ago when U of West Virginia played in Madison and yes they are the Mountaineers and their mascot is some sort of.... ahhh.... 'guy' and he has a flintlock and fires it when they score a touchdown. The big stink was that Camp Randell is on campus and no firearms are allowed. In the end the musket was allowed but if I remember correctly the Mountaineers never scored a touchdown thus the gun was never shot.
