"Blackhawk Memorial Park Woodford, Wisconsin"
"Blackhawk Memorial Park is dedicated to Chief Blackhawk and the brave Sac Indians and pioneer settlers who were all fighting to protect their familes, property, and lifestyles. Bloody Lake was named for the battle that took place here in 1832 during the Blackhawk War. Later that year, the Sac tribe was slaughtered by U. S. Cavalry at Bax Ax in Vernon County, along the Mississippi River. In 1990, Governor Thompson, in a ceremony at Bad Ax, formally apologized to the descendants of the Sac Nation for what had happened in 1832. This act marked the first formal apology made by a government representative to the Indian people for war crimes committed against their ancestors."
