According to the Argyle Atlas:
The ground on which the battle was fought is the property of Earl Mason.
...Mr. Mason has kindly given permission to the Chapter to use the ground for this purpose [of erecting a monument] and soon it is hoped that a lasting memorial will be placed to mark the spot where the first battle was fought in Wisconsin.
There is little reason to doubt this news story. Trouble is... I don't find Earl Mason's name on plat maps from around this time period. What am I missing?

Bob,
A couple of points here...
1) What was the date of the Argyle Atlas newspaper article?
2) Recently resurrected from a filing cabinet is a copy of a Capital Times newspaper clipping I had misfiled titled WOODFORD COMMEMORATES FT. HAMILTON'S BLOODY BATTLE. It has no date...(sorry), but the article stated the actual battle took place 133 years ago , therefore we can date the article - 1965.
The scene of that fighting, a parcel of land lying along the peaceful Pecatonica in Wiota township was donated as a public park by Irvin Johnson of Darlington.
