A general question for anyone who might be able to help...
If someone was looking for official reports of regular army field commanders in Wisconsin in 1827 where would they look?
I have been trying to locate any official correspondance of Col. Josiah Snelling of the 5th U.S. Infantry, and Major Willaim Whistler, of the 2nd Infantry. If eithor of these two men wrote any reports of their activities during this period it would proove I think to be of great interest.
Does anyone have any suggestions.

Hi Pete,
I had a nice visit with the curator of the Museum of West Point this past week and posed your question regarding the present whereabouts of the official correspondence between Col. Josiah Snelling of the 5th U.S. Infantry and Major William Whistler of the 2nd Infantry.
He suggested you contact Mr. Michael Musick, Specialist, Old Military and Civil Records, National Archives. He can be reached at (202) 501-5385 ext. 228 or email him at michael.musick@nara.gov
If the National Archives does, in fact, hold the Snelling-Whistler correspondence, Mr. Musick would be the person to locate them for you.
Good luck with your research.
Cliff

Hi Cliff!
Thank you for your help!! I will most certainly contact Mr. Musick. I really appreciate this, I had come to a dead end on this subject and had given up any real hope of finding anything.
