Historical accounts of the Red Bird uprising of 1827 generally cite the murders of the Methode family in 1826 and some members of the Gagnier family of 1827. Were there other murders by the Winnebago in that time period? Moses M. Strong says there was.
Strong was the guest speaker at the meeting of the "Old Settlers of La Fayette County", June 03, 1874. In a newspaper article covering his speech, Strong said that after the June 26th (28th?) murders and scalpings at the Gagnier cabin at Prairie du chien, During the disturbances occasioned by Red Bird, and about the beginning of July, three men were also killed by some Indians on Apple River, about twelve miles from White Oak Springs.
I am looking for additional information on Strong's claim.
