During the Wisconsin Sequicentennial, a number of historical plaques were installed throughout the state... many of which commemorate persons and events during the Black Hawk War.
One of these is located west of Madison near a body of water known as "Indian Lake." The sign indicates that BH and his followers passed by this lake on July 21, pursued by Gen. Henry, Col. Dodge and "Col. Ewing" [actually Major Ewing.]
Now I may well have missed something really obvious... but...my questions are:
1. How did the persons who erected this marker know that BH and his band passed by this particular lake? The requirements of the Wisconsin Historical Society require some reasonable documentation before such markers are erected.
2. What was the supposed route from Indian Lake to Wisconsin Heights?
My thanks for any insights.
Bob.
