This is a Black Hawk War bit of trivia.
In the 19th century a city was platted on the Wisconsin Heights battlefield. This was a common get rich quick scheme by land developers. They drew up paper cities and advertised lots for sale.
Fortunately the lots did not sell and land remained rural. It would have been a shame for civilization to pave over the battlefield and or Thomas Short's gravesite.
