Initial indications were that Dodge's own one-story house served as the fortification and blockhouse later known as "Fort Union."
However, I am sensing that with the outbreak of the BHW, Dodge's associates constructed a new stockade some distance up the hill from Dodge's residence.
My intial thinking was that Dodge constructed a circular stockade around his residence, similar to Fort Dodge in Platteville. Now, I am getting indications that this may not be the case.
