This technically belongs in the battles section but was too broad to include in just one section. Feel free to vote and also post comments.
Sorry for the misspellings!

An Illinois version of Robert Braun's "Battlefields and Bastions" tour is in the works. Matt Kestel and I (on the Illinois side of the OLRHS) are working on a planned day trip. The problem is that we have many conflicting reenactments that keep pushing the date back. The tour will include- the "Stillman's Run" memorial ground, the site of the Indian Creek Massacre, Fort Johnson, Fort Wilbourne, Apple River Fort, Dixon's Ferry, the site of the Prophet's Village, Kellogg's Grove, Waddam's Grove, the burial site of William Durley and a brief stop along the Galena Road. The caravan could probably stop by the burial site of Indian chief Shabbona, too, if anyone wanted to go there. I wanted to include the site of Fort Armstrong at Rock Island, but the arsenal is being very picky about who visits after 9-11. I will continue to update this forum as trip details pan out.

I had a crazy thought...it seems to me the whole story of the Black Hawk War seems like furtile ground for a movie script...BHW "The Movie" I think its an overlooked part of history!

Believe it or not, Gene, we know of such a screenplay, already being written! r.

Really! Thats very neat! Keep me posted, I'd love to be an extra in the movie. When Gettysburg was being made, I had just gotten married and was on my honeymoon when they shot the Picketts charge scene, so I missed that one.
The story of Black Hawk and the events in Illinois and Wisconsin are worth re-telling! It's the mid-way point in the indian wars, not to mention it also is joined with the incident / attack on Fort Dearborn. I think that those two stories should run together, though my research on the Fort Deaborn attack is very limited, with the exception of what I learned in the Chicago school system.

Kleffman,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at LNS. I guess I should probably put some word in about my tour plans for the Illinois sites. I am working on a tour right now for the fall, but certain factors like construction and anti-terrorism security are cutting up my plans. The intended tour will be all-day, and feature as follows (although perhaps not in this order):
1. Fort Armstrong & Rock Island Arsenal Museum 2. The site of the Village of the Prophet 3. Stillman's Run Memorial 4. Dixon's Ferry 5. William Durley murder site 6. Kellogg's Grove/St. Vrain Massacre Site 7. Indian Creek Massacre site 8. Bird's Grove Trading Post site (overrun by Sauk after Stillman's Run) 9. The grave of Chief Shabbona 10. Apple River Fort 11. Galena Road Bridge (if it is still standing by then)
Anything else? I am open to suggestions! I think Fort Johnston and Fort Wilbourn will also be included too.
