I'm attempting to verify a time line of my GGGranfather's actions after the Indian Creek Massacre. He states in one account published by Frank E. Stevens and related to my Aunt's and William Horn in Nebraska that he literally high tailed it to Ottawa the same day as the massacre. In the morning he returned to assist in burying the massared, his little Sister and parents. He then returned to Ottawa and signed up with the militia. IRAD records indicate that he was under CPT Snyder for 20 days. He also stated that that they proceeded up Rock River and Sycamore Creek but ran out of provisions and returned to Ottawa. At the same time I've read other accounts of CPT Snyder;s and Pvt (General) Whiteside's of skirmishes in a mud bog and then a fierce battle that Pvt Whiteside quickly assisted in gaining control of, and which resulted in a succesful battle for the Militia. I trust the record of my devoutly Methodist (Reverand) GGGrandpa thoroughly, however I somehow feel he may have ommitted things in his transcript to William Horn that bothered him tremendously. I can understand the ommissions completely if they happened. Can anybody verify from published accounts the whereabouts of CPT Snyders Company and the whreabouts of John W. Hall at the time of Pvt Whiteside's threatening to shoot anybody that had intentions of deserting? John Hall states that after falling in with General Dodge they marched to Burr Oak Grove or Kellog's old station. He was then detached to guard another soldier that had stabbed a fellow soldier and then sent to Galena, whereupon he gained a furlow to pick up his Sisters. I must say that he certainly packed an awfully lot of experience and travel into a short period of time. Martin L. Sullivan (1SG Ret)
