Road work was done on HWY 23 south of Mineral Point and a paved turn off was built on the east side of the road to relocate the historical marker and granite stone marker. It is a very respectable site overlooking the prairie vista to the east.
Thank you Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation!

Larry-- this is indeed interesting. Greg Carter reported the same change just days before your post. Great minds truly DO think alike! I heard rumors years ago that the landowner was rather iracible and concluded on my own that THIS the reason the marker and granite monument were placed on the west side of the road. Glad to hear that the marker was now placed such that the viewer may look towards the EAST and the presumptive location of the fort. I wonder what changed or what happened to effect this rather dramatic move? Bob. (As a point of interest, this is the SECOND time the stone monument had been moved since its dedication in 1928.)

I was by the marker today. I have to say the pull-off they built is decidedly more convenient and easier to spot when travelling too.
