Throughout the mining country men and women idolized Colonel Dodge, and they voiced their admiration in a singularly simple verse sung to the tune of Auld Land Syne -
If savage warfare be forgot, And never more appear, With hands upon our bosoms put We'll say: Dodge shall live here!

Great quote, Cliff-- thanks! And Happy New Year to you and Michele!
I have often wondered about the source for that quote. I have also wondered about sources for speeches purportedly given at Mineral Point on the occasion of the establishment of the Wisconsin Territory, July 4, 1836.
Any thoughts?
Thanks... Bob.
