I just joined this list, although admitedly I should have done so a few years ago.
My name is Dr. Patrick Jung. I am an assistant professor of history at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and this past summer I FINALLY finished my history of the Black Hawk War for the University of Oklahoma Press that I have been working on for a while now.
While it is aimed at an academic audience, I wrote it with the non-academic audience in mind. It is due for publication in spring 2006. Until then, I have a lot of work to do with the editor.
For those of you have seen Jefferey Chown's new documentary "Lincoln and the Black Hawk War," I am one of the "academic talking heads" in it.
I also have a chapter on the Black Hawk War coming out in an anthology published by Kent State University Press, but this is aimed almost entirely at academic audiences. If any one wants a copy, I will provide once it is published.
I think both my book and my chapter will make some interpretively significant additions to what is known about the Black Hawk War. There was a tremendous amount of historical and anthropological data that had not been synthesized into a new monograph, and I hope that I accomplish that through my own works.
My Ph.D. is in American history, and my specialty is Indian-White relations in the American Great Lakes region. The Black Hawk War is one of my interests, but not my only one. I have a slew of articles and books planned for the future. Right now I am working on article about Jean Nicolet.
I look forward to sharing informtion with everyone on this list, and I will let everyone know when my book and chapter are out.
