The term "Heel Hound" may have more than one application or meaning. In a thread Dodge, Hamilton and Pistols, I used it as a analogical reference pertaining to Henry Dodge's henchmen in the Mineral District in contrast with William Hamilton who was at odds with Dodge on more than one occasion. Clearly, Hamilton was not an obedient, submissive hound dog following at the heels of Master Dodge.
I have no notion of the terms origin. Many years ago I had seen the colloquial expression used infrequently while researching the unique exportation of lawlessness and violence from the Missouri Territory and later from the State of Missouri.
Regards,
Larry

Bob Braun Moderator.Sorry Bob! I should have read the rules more thoroughly. My REAL full name? I am a member to many boards and I must say, that's a first! But I am sure there is a good reason for it. I will read over the rules more carefully. Robert Culver

Regards, Larry Thanks you very much for responding! That cleared it up for me! I was watching 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' for the umpteenth time and heard that expression. I did a google search and this board was the only place that I was led to. I have been reading about the Black Hawk War at the Lincoln Library website and have found it found it very interesting. PS - That phrase and it's origins would be a great contribution to the following site: members.aol.com/MorelandC/HaveOrigins.htmCheck out the great menu at the left of the site! Thanks again, Robert Culver

Bob Braun, one last thing. For some reason, I can not find the rules. Can you provide a link to the board's rules?
