Question for Larry:
In your BHW fort collection, do you have Fort Beane in Goshen, IN and the fort location in South Bend? (Just trying to make sure you have a complete set.)

To answer your question, John... no I do not. My fort research and files are limited to strong points in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. I welcome information such as found in this posting and Mr. Greg Carter's excellent fortification work found on the OLRHS website.
This wide scope of citizen fort building is intriguing and a telling chapter of the BHW. After all one is hard pressed to find mention of this war in many history books.

I see that the compilation of Pete Payette's fort sites (http://www.geocities.com/naforts/in.html) includes Fort Beane, but not the one in South Bend. That's a bit strange, because the one in South Bend is much better documented.
The web site says Fort Beane was near the corner of Reynolds Street and IN 2. I don't know what road is meant by IN 2, but there is a marker for the fort at the corner of Reynolds Street and US 33. But AFAIK the exact site of that fort is rather murky.
The one in South Bend is in a busy part of downtown, in a place now occupied by a convention center. I don't think there is a marker, but historical walking tour guides that have been printed have listed it.
