Hi all.
Just found this board. My personal interests regarding BH are not really the war but rather his life before the war. Even more specifically, the activity of the Sac, Fox and other groups in the area of Mercer County, just South of Rock Island County.
The Indian and Military Trail from Oquawka (Lower Yellow Banks) to the Rock River is also of interest. Honestly, one of my goals is to completely trace the route with a fair amount of certainty.
Oh, I grew up on a farm near Eliza, IL and still have family in the area.
So, is there anyone around but me and the crickets?

Hey, Ken -
Greetings from a fellow ex-patriot Sucker and welcome to the Black Hawk War bulletin board. You know that song by Bruce Springsteen, "Glory Days" ? - seems to me it might be applicable to the BHWMB - that is to say, there was a time - not that long ago - when there were a half dozen or so regular posters to the site and an active discussion of historic topics. Somehow the site drifted into contemporary, ultra-conservative political rhetoric, which alienated a number of historians. I long for the day when contributors like Larry Koschkee and others provided interesting historical data and insight to the era of the Black Hawk War.
I welcome your contributions concerning the Sac and Fox in Mercer County, either statements or queries, or just your continued interest in the board.
I will be posting a transcription of a Black Hawk War document, which I recently acquired, that demonstrates the U.S. response to the conflict in Illinois.
With best regards on behalf of myself and the BHW community,
Cliff Krainik Warrenton, Virginia
P.S. Give my regards to Buddy Holly.

This is a great site. I think the information here is outstanding. But it is a tad bit quite.
