Sounds good... Butch always has lotsa trinkets to tempt the attendees. He's a hoot to jaw with, too.
I'll looking for the blacksmith, as well... assuming Chris can provide us with a little personal discomfort so that I have a reason to participate. He's doing what he can, as they ARE predicting higher temps. and humidity. I dunno if I can do without a goodly dose of Elizabeth Illinois RAIN, though! ;D
Oh, well... I might attend after all.

We traded rain for flies!
Prince Charles Stuart Jacobite Rebellion, 1745
On the serious, I guess, side, this was a killer event! Many thanks to Chris and Susan for the whole round of goodies and the entire experience. Definitely on the calendar again for next year!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Ok, enough of the smiley's! That's just to let you guys know how excited I am about the event. It went really well, the fort survived (thanks to Mr. Whitlock for not burning it down!) I just wanted to let everyone know how great the event went. I really appreciated all the effort everyone put in to bring stuff, talk with the public, and in general put on a first rate event, despite all the sweating, swatting at flies, and anymore unpleasantries suffered by the troops! It's not an event if there isn't some suffering!
Saturday evening was undoubtedly the highlight of the affair and thanks to the Old Lead Region and all the others for their assistance in setting things up and keeping those crowds under control. All told we had over 800 people come to the fort. WOW! I too am looking forward to next year. I received tremendous amounts of positive comments from the Director of our Agency as well as another Springfield visitor who assists small sites like mine with events. NICELY DONE!
I will post dates for all of our events next year within the week.
Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing many of you again at our Christmas event - December 15. As we get closer I will post more information on that as well.
Give yourselves a huge pat on the back and know you were part of something unique and special in this part of Northern Illinois.
I'll walk on glass for you guys (and gals) Humbly yours, Susan

I would like to say what an honor it was for myself and my troupe to perform for all of you Saturday evening. The audience was very giving with their applause and our fine Gilbert Muirs elixir sold quite well. The food and hospitality were also first rate. It was a little difficult at first to perform with our bellies so full but we adjusted. We will be traveling next to Charleston, Illinois and then on to Springfield. I have heard that some of the fine members here will be attending Springfield. We look forward to seeing you there.
I Remain, Zeno

Everyone who reads Susan's last comment should now completely agree with my Canada-Kentucky Theory!

Well, dang. I come out for the funerals and the French-Canadian workout tape but miss the best event ARF has ever had. I was down in Pekin helping my father-in-law put together his WWII ex-POW float for the Marigold Days parade. Then I went swimming with my 12-year-niece and she found a mussel shell with a real pearl in it. So I guess my weekend was okay after all.
But I still missed all you guys. And the opportunity to suck up to the new IHPA director for a job.
