Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site will host its annual re-enactment of a typical Illinois summer day in the early 1830's. Many crafts and interpretive activities are demonstrated.
As in past years, the Old Lead Region Historical Society has been cordially invited to participate in this program, particularly the New Salem Militia muster. The event features a daily flag raising, a parade, drilling and weapons demonstrations. Site hours for LNS are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.
There is plenty to do for all Society members, young and old. Costumed OLRHS members will again be allowed to utilize the Rutledge Tavern as a central location for housekeeping and interpretation, courtesy of the LNS staff.
What to expect: If you have never attended an event at LNS, be prepared for a treat. We have been treated like royalty, with three delicious meals each day plus plenty of activites for men, women and children each day. In return, the OLRHS will expect its members to provide interpretive program support, and pitch in with cooking, clean-up, fetching wood/water, or such chores as may need doing throughout the event. Generally, such chores are minimal, and frankly alot of fun to do!
What to bring:Costumed OLRHS participants will need to bring themselves, their period clothing, a wallet with their eating utensils, and period craft/interpretive materials. Militia members will need to adjust their impression to portray New Salem, Illinois persons, and provide their own arms, accouterment, and gunpowder or pre-wrapped cartridges (20-30 will do for the weekend). A hat, cap or other head covering is essential; as is some sort of filled water container. It will be July in central Illinois; last year it was [glow=red,2,300]HOT!!![/glow]
How to get there: Lincoln's New Salem is located 2 miles south of Petersburg, IL, on Rt. 97 or 20 miles northwest of Springfield, IL, on Rt. 97. The site is well-marked and easily found. Once in the main parking area, the OLRHS prefers you park and walk to the militia encampment site, located in the village in the shaded grove next to the wool carding mill. The Rutledge Tavern is further down the same road, on the right hand side and up a slight rise of ground. If you need to drive into the site to unload, you may do so (yes... the gate area to the right of the visitor center IS wide enough to admit a vehicle.) However, you MUST remove your vehicle from the site by 8:45 a.m. or earlier. Persons departing before 5 p.m. on Sunday will NOT be allowed to bring vehicles into the village, so plan accordingly!!

this past Thursday (don't ask) and will be somewhat incapacitated for at least the next six weeks 
. She should heal fine but is wearing a boot-type soft cast with velcro straps that's not quite 1830s- (or even 1930s) -looking enough.
