Our esteemed OLRHS President, Pete Shrake, has been in contact with Mr. Michael Goc of the Adams-Friendship Historical Society. Mr. Goc is interested in a more focused protrayal of Wisconsin history at his Society's July 6-7 special event, and has asked the Old Lead Region Historical Society (on sort of short notice) to help out.
Specifically, the AFHS is looking for assistance on Sunday July 7 for portrayals of territorial persona and Sauk War militiamen. This would be a daylong event, with a specific BHW presentation around Noon, but we are invited for the entire weekend if desired.
More details, including directions, will be forthcoming.
I know I can make Sunday, at least. Please check your schedules and see if you are able to help out for all or part of the weekend.
Keep an eye on this thread for updates, directions, and additional information.
Regards,
Bob Braun, Secretary, OLRHS.

Bob,
I think I will try to make this one. It sounds a heck of a lot better than the Wauconda Civil War tactical.

Sounds good.... Friendship Wisconsin is about 2 hours from Fort Atkinson. I'm hoping Pete will be able to provide us more precise directions. Bob.

Bob; Unfortunately, I will be out of town at a family reunion during that weekend, This is the Curtis family reunion, the same Curtis who was a 1st Lt. during the Black Hawk War, so I'm really looking forward to the trip. But please keep us posted about any other events that come up, I will try to attend. Gene

Hello Gentlemen!
Bob, Thanks for posting a notice of this event! I am glad you will be able to make it, Gregg, I hope to see you there as well (it will be nice to finally meet you in person). Even if it is just the three of us it ought to go well.
I hope others may be able to attend, the more the merrier.
It will be a great opportunity to build relations with other historical societies and to refine any presentation programs.
I will be posting detailed directions on this thread in the very near future. The president of the Adams-Friendship Historical society has been unavailable recently but as soon as he returns home I will get specific directions as to how to get to the event site.
Again, thanks to all and anyone who can make it, I know this is very short notice.
Pete

Bob & Pete,
Just to confirm- I will be there Sunday also, but I can't come up Saturday night like I had hoped. I will be there at dawn with bells and whistles (or for that matter cheesebox and wallets) on!

Sounds good. I don't know where I'll be on the grounds... but I expect to have the tent-cloth along and set up. Yes... no pun intended... I truly will be "campaign style!" Heck, I may even experiment with hard bread!
Don't mistake me for one of the "fur-bearin' critters" out there!
Bob.

Besty... I got your email... I was delayed in sending measurements due to other things. Will send tonight by seperate email. Would enjoy your and the boys' participation at AFHS... be advised I'm going really light for this trip: tent cloth, modest cooking utensils, no kettles, no large tent fly, no box. No fort here... so we're going with the field impression, "Michigan Mounted Volunteers." Or.. as Greg would prefer I say: "campaign style!!!" I will have a folding camp stool along for you, now that I know you're coming. Mary and crew will join us on Sunday, as will Pete and Greg Carter. Have not heard from Bob P. yet. I'm not sure when I will arrive, and where we will be located on the grounds. I've asked Pete to request from Mr. Goc a shade tree area, if available. I should be there mid to late morning Saturday. Bob.

Bob,
don't worry about mis-identification! The only fur you visibly bear (when you wear a hat, anyway) is on the sides of your face, LOL.

Pete After talking with Pete this AM, he and I agree that it would be prudent to [glow=red,2,300]AVOID driving through Wisconsin Dells![/glow] If you are coming from Madison on Interstate 90/94, cross the bridge over the Wisconsin River and look for signs directing you north on I-39. From here, you can go a couple of ways: 1. Take I-39 north to Exit 106 (Route 82) and follow 82 west towards Oxford and on to the intersection with Route 13. Turn right and follow Route 13 north as indicated by Pete; 2. Follow I-39 north to Exit 124, and take Route 21 west towards Arkdale. BEFORE you get to Arkdale, you will intersect Route 13. Turn left and follow Route 13 south towards Fiendship. Park will be on the north side of town at the intersection of Route 13 and Highway "J".

Thank you for posting this Bob!!!
I can not believe that I forgot to mention the problems with driving throuhg the Dells in the summer. Its bad, I mean real bad...no...I mean really really really bad. The bumber to bumper, advance at a crawl pace, will drive anyone insane.
I heartily reccomend everyone following Bob's directions to Adams Friendship!

Truly shocking, Pete! Even we Illinois boys know to avoid the Dells!
